Q&A: Behind the Seams with SuZann Designs

Your most common custom gown questions answered.

  • What makes a custom gown different from purchasing off-the-rack?

” Your dress will be one-of-a-kind, designed to reflect your personal style, vision, and wedding theme. You won’t see anyone else wearing your gown. Being part of the creative process makes the gown more meaningful. It becomes a piece of your story, not just something you wear. “

  • Can you create gowns based on vintage or period styles, like Old Hollywood or Regency-era looks?

” Yes, I enjoy taking vintage styling and creating a gown a modern twist. “

  • What are some of the most unique requests you’ve ever received?

” To create a gown based off a costume from the 1958 movie Gigi. “

  • What advice would you give to brides considering going custom for the first time?

” Give yourself plenty of time—ideally 6 to 12 months before the wedding. Custom gowns require consultations, fittings, and craftsmanship time. Have inspiration photos, fabric preferences, or silhouette ideas—but be open to suggestions from your designer. Go to the stores, and try on gowns to see what styles and silhouettes look best on your body type.  Have a budget in mind.  Trust the process. “

Get to Know Suzanne

  • If you could design a gown for any fictional bride or celebrity, who would it be?

 ” Marilyn Monroe “

  • What’s your favorite part of the process?

” The finished gown, and the look on the brides face when she walks down the aisle. “
